“The best places to live, work, and visit are those places that are willing to uphold their standards in the face of pressure to allow lowest common denominator development… Successful communities understand that when they say no to development that is contrary to the long-term health of their community, they will almost always get better development in its place.”
~ Ed McMahon, Conservation Fund
The above quote was the genesis of the idea for Two Bays - to create the highest possible denominator ‘development’ following a year of struggle with marine applications. We have the opportunity to demonstrate the good that can be done for the community, wildlife and the environment, and in the race to mitigate the impacts of climate change. The cleaner, greener, community-driven alternative.
Let’s throw our arms around our coast and
protect it now and for future generations.
"We owe it to our children to be better stewards of the environment.
The alternative? - a world without whales. It's too terrible to imagine."
Pierce Brosnan, 007, said that, by the way!

Ocean plastics. We plan to develop innovative solutions to the ocean plastics problem. This will include providing recycling options for fisheries, encouraging reusing and repurposing single-use plastics and clearing macro-plastics from our sea snd macro- and micro-plastics from our shores. We aim to set up a community recycling project using injection moulding to turn ocean plastics into beautiful objects.
Surveys. We will be supporting The Seal Research Trust, Cornwall Wildlife Trust and others by carrying out wildlife surveys, at sea as well as from land, and uploading results onto the Cornwall Coastal Data Hub.
Citizen Science. Citizen Science is a valued resource for science, research, and policy, and ensures that efforts are focused on the real needs of the community.
Biodiversity. Due to prevailing winds and exposed position, much of the land closest to the sea is challenging to cultivate. We will work with our conservation partners to find solutions to this by creating sheltered areas for planting, and by seeking out the hardiest of plant species.
Surveys
We have an abundance of spectacular marine wildlife native to and visiting our two bays. The Seal Research Trust carries out quarterly surveys of all species along our coast, and we can support them by recording sightings from the land, and from our own boats as often as we can.
Biodiversity
North Cornwall National Trust are working to create 250 hectares of new species rich grassland at National Trust sites across Cornwall to help tackle the twin challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change. We will join NT rangers and volunteers in supporting this project in our area, as much as possible
Ocean Plastics
Huge amounts of macro- and micro-plastics wash around our two bays and litter our beaches. We will pick up what we can, and find innovative recycling solutions, but we will also help to spread the word about reducing and reusing single use plastics.
