Volunteering with Two Bays

We can’t do anything without you.

From cliff walks to beach cleans to manning the Marine Centre, your input will ensure that we are able to benefit as many people as possible, and as much of the environment as we can reach.

We will never ask you to give more than you are able to, and will always support you in all your endeavours with us.

Projects (a few of them!)

Marine Centre @Trevathan

I have a feeling that the Marine Centre will never quite be completed! I mean that we are always going to be expanding and improving this crucial new resource. We need help, whenever you can spare the time, to carry out these improvements. The Marine Centre is going to be a lovely space, so I’m hoping that volunteers will be keen to be part of the front of house team there.

Cliff Walks

These are guided walks in the area, with volunteers who are able to answer simple questions about the area and wildlife, and highlight landmarks and points of interest. We will provide a guide with local info, if you need it.

Beach Cleans

These sound simple, but can take some organising. We will be holding workshops for volunteers to help with hosting beach clean events, which will be run in collaboration with Cleaner Seas Project.

Gardening

Biodiversity improvement and native planting around the Marine Centre site is going to be a big thing! We love to connect with passionate and experienced gardeners, and anyone with landscaping experience.

We sincerely hope that all our volunteers will themselves benefit from working alongside Two Bays as we strive to improve the lives of communities and the environment.

Joining the dots…

We are speaking and meeting with all sorts of incredible people and organisations, but if you have any connections you think we should consider, please get in touch. Schools and youth groups, particularly.

Please have a look at our Volunteering Policy. If there is anything you disagree with, or would like clarification on, please contact us.

Two Bays Volunteering Policy

Volunteers are the cornerstone of the Two Bays Trust’s work.

The Two Bays Trust

  • acknowledges that volunteers will always be vital in leading and delivering our missions.

  • appreciates that volunteering is an important method of increasing participation in our work and developing greater awareness of our strategic vision

  • recognises that many volunteers are engaged across the county and that they need to feel valued and appreciated through effective management procedures

  • believes that our volunteer roles are designed to complement, add to, or enhance the work of our organisation collectively

Volunteers are people who, without receiving payment, give their time to assist with Two Bay’s vision and purpose. Our volunteers support us on clifftops, at events, conferences, meetings and offer their skills and expertise to key personnel and our board of trustees. We expect the number of volunteers to continue increasing as Two Bays develops and grows.
Volunteering is a two-way partnership, from which both parties can benefit. By volunteering with Two Bays, volunteers can learn new skills, expand their range of experience, gain a reference for their CV, meet new people, work on new challenges, have fun, support others and much more.
In order for our volunteers to enjoy a positive experience, all volunteers are entitled to an interesting, enjoyable and worthwhile volunteer role with support and supervision.
Although volunteers do not seek financial reward, they do appreciate and value recognition in other ways. Credit and acknowledgement of all contributions will be made wherever possible. This could range from a simple ‘thank you’ in an email, acknowledging their involvement with projects in talks, or in reports and publications. Currently Two Bays regret they are financially unable to meet volunteer out-of-pocket expenses.
The relationship between the organisation and its volunteers is entirely voluntary and does not imply any contract. However, it is important that the Two Bays Trust is able to maintain its reputation whilst at the same time volunteers should enjoy making their contribution. If the participation of a volunteer is contrary to Two Bays’ objectives, positive action will be taken to identify and solve any problems and complaints at the earliest possible stage.
All volunteers have a duty of care towards the data they collect ensuring it is used in line with the law and Two Bays’ public benefit aims. This means that when asked not to disclose any sensitive information, such as wildlife sites, they abide by appropriate and reasonable requests for the ultimate benefit of the animals. This includes information of a personal nature, for example, name, address, telephone number, or any other information which might result in the identity of contributors being disclosed. Volunteers may also have access to information regarding staff and their fellow volunteers.

In the case of a perceived mental health emergency, volunteers are permitted to share details only with Two Bays, as outlined in our Privacy Policy.

Volunteers play key roles in the organisation and so are required to commit to pre-arranged volunteering dates and time slots, or if unable to attend, make contact with Two Bays in good time.

Complaints from volunteers or about volunteers will be taken seriously and investigated appropriately to the best of our ability on behalf of, or by, our trustees.

Two Bays reserves the right to carry out background checks, such as Disclosure and Barring Checks.

Our safeguarding policy must be followed by all.
